[Play “Bicycle for Two”]

[Sign: “Clap for Grandma”]

[Put on Dr. Seuss hat]

We have gathered here today

Not for work, and not for play

But for celebration, an event together

To join James and Mieke in marriage forever

In the crowd there are many faces

From here and there and far away places

But we gather here upon common ground

For James and Mieke and the love that they’ve found

With God way up there looking on down

Upon our faces, he’ll see no frown

There is only happiness - he sees no fear

With any of us standing here

Why we marry, we don’t really know

For some its comfort, for others its show

But whether for charity, or fancy dress

The weddings for pleasure, are the ones we like best

[Sign: “We’ve Got Big Weddings”]

Its been done before, this wedding thing

People come and gather and eat and sing

And before you know it, it’s over and done

What was two before, has turned into one

Thirty-four years ago upon this same day

Bob and Linda had their way

And now their son, the oldest of two

Has his turn to say, I do

[Sign: “Audience Yell: ‘Way to go Bob and Linda!’ ”]

And so we will join them, as has been done for ages

In the book of life, this is one of those special pages

An event, a moment, for all to see

Recorded in history by you and me

It’s for this moment you did prepare

Some thoughtful words, selected with care

You may repeat to each other now

Those words that are your wedding vow

James:    I will love you with all my heart
Mieke:     I will love you ‘til death do us part

James:    I will love you when we’re poor

Mieke:     I will love you even more

James:    I will love you for all your smiles

Mieke:     I will love you through all the miles

James:    I will love even if you are whiney
Mieke:     I just love to look at your... eyes

James:    I will love you until the end

Mieke:     I will love you as my husband

-----

Mieke:     I will love you when we’re old

James:    I will love you ‘till the stars grow cold

Mieke:     I will love you through good and bad
James:    I will love you when you’re glad or sad

Mieke:     I will love you wherever we go

James:    I will love you even if there is snow

Mieke:     I will love you because you're the best
James:    I just love to look at your... eyes

Mieke:     I will love you my entire life
James:    I will love you as my wife

Mieke, do you take James to be your husband?

To love and honor and cherish ‘til the end?

If you agree, say those words, there are two

A pronoun, a verb, now you say… “I do” [Mieke]

[Sign: “Cheer Loudly”]

James, do you take Mieke to be your wife?

To love and honor and cherish for life?

If you agree, say those words, there are two

A pronoun, a verb, now you say… “I do” [James]

[Sign: “Cheer Loudly”]

On to the rings, those little round hunks of metal

With those five little stones that remind you to pedal

Those precious little rings, they should be kept behind locks

But today they are hiding – in a Cracker Jacks Box!

[Sign: “Audience – Look in your boxes!”]

So dig to the bottom and look you may see

We hope no one ate them – so sad we’d all be!

There are two, one for James, one for Mieke

If you happen to find one, just say… “Eureka!”  [Tom and Jen shout]

[Tom and Jen come forward and stay]

Now take those rings, do not fumble or fidget

Slide it on down, to the base of your digit

Go wear it with pride, clear on display

For all to see, until your last day

[Tom and Jen give James and Mieke rings, then exchange rings]

[Sign: “Just Plain Applause”]

The word you have spoken, you said loud and clear

But we must get a record of those standing here

Because one thing I’ve learned in this profession of mine

The deal is not done until we sign on the line

[Tom and Jen sign the official marriage license, James and Mieke sign symbolic license]

With that you are married, by the laws of this land

James and Mieke now go hand in hand

As husband and wife you will stand side by side

James, its okay, you may now kiss the bride

[Sign: “Loud Cat Calls”]

We’re nearing the end, though you may want a noose

For all these crazy rhymes from a love struck Dr. Seuss

But there is one last rhyme that I just must make

That it, ya’ll we’re done – Let’s go eat some cake!

[Sign: “Hoot and Holler Obnoxiously!”]

[Play “I’m a believer”]
