Wedding Ceremony for DiAnn and Brad

Cox Lake, South Dakota

Greeting

We are gathered here today to celebrate the marriage of Brad and DiAnn.  We share with them their delight in finding love with each other and support their decision to be together from now until the end of time.

Remember, anything beautiful that you have, came from God.  In the beginning, God gave us our free will and our identity to walk this earth.  Don’t ever try to change each other, because if you do, you will lose exactly what you fell in love with.  So, each day try to find one more thing that is beautiful in your mate and each day know that the next day will be more beautiful than the one before.  As long as you are doing this, you are seeking beauty, joy, and love in each other.

My Lighthouse
by Diane Blue

Sometimes my life is dark, empty, and foreboding
Like a ship in the night out at sea
But you are there for me
You are the tower of strength that I rely on.

Sometimes I'm sad and alone
Like the captain at the wheel, wanting to be home
But you are there for me
You shine your bright light for me to reach out to

Sometimes I'm confused, not sure what to do
Like the seaman who looses his way in the fog
But you are there for me
Your voice tells me the right direction.

Sometimes life is as rough as the uncaring sea
It causes panic, frustration, and despair
But you are there for me
A quiet entity on the edge of a rugged cliff.

You are my beacon, my lighthouse.

Address

The history of love is expansive and varied.  It has ridden through rough waters and coasted through calm seas.  It has fought and won many battles, both with actions and words.  We too must face these things in love.  As a married couple you will have days where you are angry with each other and struggle to be in the same place together.  There will be other days, better and hopefully more frequent, when you cannot wait to be together, even if it is just to hold hands and relax quietly in each others presence.  These days will be supported by the dreams and passions that you share with and for each other.  Take each day of your marriage, good and bad, and cherish them. Help each other grow the love in your hearts by sharing, forgiving, crying, and laughing together about life and through life. You have come together to embrace this love you have found and to share your life’s journey, do so with open arms and you will be able to conquer the rough waters and enjoy the peacefulness of the calm seas. Remember, each day, the path love has taken to arrive at its destination and assist it along the way to the future as you nurture its home in your hearts and in your marriage.

Vows

DiAnn, I take you to be my wife; to share with you the laughter; to kiss away the tears; and to give you all the love in my heart, as long as we both shall live.

Brad, I take you to be my husband; to share with you the laughter; to kiss away the tears; and to give you all the love in my heart, as long as we both shall live.

Exchanging of the Rings

DiAnn, as the sign from my heart that I desire to live with you from this day forward as my wife, and that you may remember forever that I have chosen you above all others, I give you this ring as a sign of my love.

Brad, as the sign from my heart that I desire to live with you from this day forward as my husband, and that you may remember forever that I have chosen you above all others, I give you this ring as a sign of my love.

Marriage Blessing

May the Lord make your union more than just a marriage of two hearts in love.  May it shine as a lighthouse for the spiritual rest . . . a loving retreat, and a welcome place for understanding. May others searching for refuge finds its beacon strong and steady . . . with golden rays, like Heaven’s arms, of comfort and security.  May you always stand committed, two servants as one after God’s own heart. (Rebecca Barlow Jordan)

Pronouncement of Marriage

Because you have chosen one another, honored each other with the precious gift of rings and pledged to love each other for all the days of your lives, it gives me great joy to pronounce you husband and wife.  Brad, you may kiss your bride.

Prayer

Lord, be with Brad and DiAnn as they embark on this newest life voyage. Let Brad and DiAnn be a tower of strength to each other, guiding each other through the rough waters until they reach a safe harbor.  Please shine your light upon them like a lighthouse’s beacon leading them through the storm.  Bless their marriage and their life together.  Amen.
